System Migration and Application Rewrite

Our Approach

Do you have a Business System or Software Application that is struggling to cope with changing business requirements or underperforming with increased use?

System MigrationOne thing everyone should be able to agree on is that the world does not stand still.  Neither too should your business software systems and applications.

Over the years, TCS has performed a number of migrations and rewrites of systems written in aging development platforms to new platforms, thereby extending the life of the systems, their reliability, performance and RoI.

There are a number of strategies to replacing an under-performing system including:

  • purchasing more evolved Packaged software;
  • migrating the existing database structure and business logic to a new platform; or
  • performing a rewrite of the application using revised business logic based upon your new requirements.

Whichever strategy you choose, TCS can help by analysing and documenting your existing system, evaluating the advantages and disadvantages to your business of migrating your specific requirements to a new platform and then implementing your preferred solution to your budget and timescales.

The most common rewrites we perform are migrating Microsoft Access databases to a Microsoft SQL Server platform and also rewriting desktop based applications to become browser based applications.

For more information about our migration and rewrite services and to read some of the benefits of performing these types of rewrites, please turn to the next tab.

Microsoft Access to SQL Server Migration

Microsoft Access to SQL Server MigrationAlthough the Access database platform is still going strong, many companies are realising the benefits of lower maintenance overheads and increased reliability from migrating the data tables to Microsoft SQL Server.

A SQL Server platform, together with translating the forms to a web based application written using Microsoft's ASP.NET Framework and also migrating the reports to Microsoft Reporting Services, provides a stable application environment and wider access to information.

How can we Help?

TCS has performed many migrations of Microsoft Access Databases to SQL Server and have the skills and experience to ensure that the migration is smooth and seamless for users.

If the Access Database front-end is to be retained we also ensure that it is modified to connect to SQL Server and that any differences in the way in which Microsoft Access needs to respond to SQL Server are incorporated into your User Forms and Modules.

A Thorough Job

TCS do not offer just a simple "upsizing" of the data tables (there's a built-in Wizard if you want to try that), instead we offer a much more in-depth and thorough conversion of the tables and queries to Microsoft SQL Server and, if required, rewrite the code, macros, forms and reports into either a Desktop Application or Browser-based Application using Visual Studio .NET.

What you will get is an application that is easily distributed and centrally managed in order to reduce your maintenance costs and also scalable to cope with your future growth.

Of course, we do have a streamlined approach to converting Microsoft Access databases to work with SQL Server, so if you have a tight timescale for completing the work, do not delay; call TCS and we will

Your Call

If you have a one or more Microsoft Access Databases that are critical to your business, but are constraining your business and frustrating your Users, please contact us for a free, no obligation, competitive quote or to discuss your requirements in more detail.

Application Rewrites with Visual Studio

Old Languages to Visual Studio

Since the introduction of Visual Studio 2003 and the first version of the .NET Framework, TCS has performed many migrations of legacy applications in order to provide new features or to ensure that the applications remain compliant with various legislation or even provide a rebranding of the application due to a merger or acquisition.

We can take your Visual Basic, C++ or Active Server Pages code and create a managed code version of the application that encapsulates all the business rules of your previous version.

We can also document the new system with various levels of detail for you to validate against any existing business rules and processes.

Once your application has been migrated, you will start to realise the benefits of having a modern distributed application without the overheads of maintaining an outdated system.  One of the benefits of running and maintaining a modern solution is that Technical Solutions to problems are usually easier to find.  Another benefit is that Technical Skills are also easier to find, and, because they are more widely available, resources are often cheaper than those who have maintained their knowledge of the older development platforms and the intricacies that they present.

Your Call

TCS are able to offer a robust and tested application rewrite methodology, that caters for many different scenarios.

So, if you have a software application that needs updating to suit your evolving business requirements and budget, please contact us for a free, no obligation, competitive quote or to discuss your requirements in more detail.
